Reliance to buy Google-backed tech start-up Shopsense Retail

Reliance Industries agreed to buy a stake Shopsense Retail Technologies Pvt, technology start-up funded by Google, scooping up an inventory-management platform and adding to the list of smaller deals the conglomerate has assembled to take on Amazon.

DRDO successfully test fired QRSAM Missile

The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired an indigenously developed Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) from a mobile truck-based launch unit from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha. It is an all-weather and all-terrain missile type. QRSAM missile has been developed for the Army. The entire mission was tracked by various electro-optical tracking systems, radar systems and telemetry systems.

Gujarat government launched Vhali Dikri Yojna

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched the ‘Vhali Dikri Yojna’ from his hometown Rajkot, Gujarat. The scheme is introduced for the welfare of the girl child. The meaning of this scheme is Dear Daughter Scheme. The main details about this scheme is stated before. Vahali Dikri Yojana is launched to improve the sex ratio of girl child in the State. The successful implementation of this scheme State government allocated a budget of Rs 133 Crore.

Lovlina Borgohain won gold at the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial International Boxing Tournament 2019 The event held at Kaspiysk, Russia The Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina faced Assunta Canfora of Italy in the finals. Govind Sahani (49Kg) and Jony (60Kg) grabbed bronze medals after their semi-final losses.

NFDC announces Second window of Funding for Film Production in various Indian languages

The National Film Development Corporation Limited (NFDC) scheme titled ‘Production of films in various Indian languages’ which is done by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (GOI) announced will accept applications for funding of feature films.
It produces & co-produces feature films that reflect the diversity in Indian Cinema, under its extant guidelines for film production.

Reserve Bank of India imposes crore fine on seven PSBs for violating norms

The Reserve Bank of India imposed a penalty of 11 crores on seven public sector banks for violating norms on current account opening.The banks which includes Allahabad Bank and Bank of Maharashtra have been imposed a fine of 2 crore each, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank and United Bank of India have been slapped with fines of 1.5 crore each, while Oriental Bank of Commerce has been imposed with a penalty of 1 crore.

State Bank of India and Shanghai becomes first Indian bank to link up with CNAPS

State Bank of India’s Shanghai branch linked to China’s National Advanced Payment System (CNAPS).
It is the first Indian Bank to operationalize it. The CNAPS, launched in 2008 by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) provides real-time settlement services for all payments cleared in China. The CNAPS system is complemented by its international counterpart, the CIPS (China International Payments System or Cross-Border Interbank Payment System) launched in 2015.

EAM S. Jaishankar Co-Chairs 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meet in Bangkok

The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was on two-day visit to Thailand  to attend key ministerial meetings of the regional forums of ASEAN, Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) and East Asia Summit. The Minister attended the ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting and 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meeting on August 1, 2019. Jaishankar co-chaired the 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Ministerial Meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh.

Kolkata Metro has constructed the first-ever transport tunnel in the country which will pass through underwater. The East-West Metro corridor will pass through under Hooghly river and it will become the first such river crossing in the country.

According to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Microsoft Inc’s Founder Chairman Bill Gates has regained the second-richest spot in the world rich list. Earlier in July 2019, Europe’s richest person Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy — Louis Vuitton SE, replaced Bill Gates in the Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index to become the second-richest person in the world. Bill Gates’ net worth was estimated at $106 billion, whereas the net worth of Bernard Arnault dropped to $97.8 billion as of August 04, 2019.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Win Men’s Doubles Title at Thailand Open (Badminton)

In Badminton, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty claimed the men’s doubles title of Thailand Open in Bangkok by defeating Chinese pair of Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen. It is for the first time that India won the men’s doubles title of the BWF Super 500 tournament.
